His parents Cornelis Hillegonds and Yda Kooyman, both born in the municipality Zijpe in the northwestern part of the Dutch western province Noord-Holland, married on June 24, 1886 in Koedijk, a village located on the eastern dyke of the Noordhollandsch Kanaal, north of the city of Alkmaar, province Noord-Holland.

In September 1886 Willem's sister Dieuwertje (Dora) and her twin brother Arie (Harry) were born in a house "aan den Kanaaldijk", the western dyke of the Noordhollandsch Kanaal, located in the extreme eastern part of the municipality Bergen, in the northwestern part of the province Noord-Holland. On August 1, 1888 Willem's brother Jan was born in Koedijk, house number 153.

In September 1889 Willem Jacob Hillegonds was born in the village of Koedijk, house number 150, in the northwestern part of the province Noord-Holland, son of the 28 years old laborer Cornelis Hillegonds and IJda Kooyman.

In 1889 or 1890 the family Hillegonds emigrated on the s.s. P. Calland to the USA.

In April 1896 the family Hillegonds was residing at 345-109th Street in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.

In June 1900 Willem J Hillegond (11 years old, born in August 1888 in Holland, immigrated in 1889), his father Cornelius Hillegond (39, November 1860, Holland, 1889, laborer at a clothing mill), mother Ida (41, October 1858, Holland, 1889, mother of 7 living children), siblings Harrij (13, December 1886, Holland, 1889, farm laborer), Dora (13, December 1886, Holland, 1889, servant girl), John (12, September 1887, Holland, 1889) , Marijtje (8, July 1891, Illinois) , Stijntje (6, June 1893, Illinois) and Antje (2, June 1897, Illinois) were living in a rented house at 10844 Wentworth Avenue in Calumet Township, Ward 34 of -south- Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.

In January 1920 William Hillegond (30, machinist in the farm implements industry), his father Cornelius Hillegond (59, working in the car shops industry), mother Ida (61), siblings John (31, machinist in the farm implements industry), Mary (28, bench worker in the farm implements industry), Tena (25, bench worker in the farm implements industry) and Annie (22) were living at Yale Avenue in Ward 9 of Chicago Ward 9, Cook County, Illinois.

On May 26, 1920 William J Hillegond married in Chicago , Cook County, Illinois the four years younger Anna Dikken, who had Dutch parents too.

On February 11, 1922 William J. and Anna [Dikken] Hillegonds had in Chicago son William C. ["Bill"] Hillegonds, who became later on a reverend and died in 2007 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

In April 1940 Wm Hillegonds (50, Illinois [sic], machinist at a harvester co), his wife Anna (46, Illinois) and their son Wm Hillegonds (18, Illinois) were living in their own house, worth $4000, in Ward 9 of -southern- Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. They lived in 1935 in the same house.

In 1942 William Jacob Hillegonds (52, working at International Harvester Co in Chicago) resided with his wife Anna at 11730 Harvard Avenue in the district of Roseland, Chicago, when he was administrated on a World War II Draft Registration Card.

On 23 August, 1986 his wife Anna died at the age of 92 years in the former Dutch truck farmers settlement of South Holland, located just south of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. Her widower William Hillegonds died there six days later, on August 29, 1986, at the age of almost 97 years.
