Clyde G. "Bill" Hensley, 97, of McGaheysville, departed to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, July 28, 2014 at his home.

Mr. Hensley was born July 21, 1917 in McGaheysville, VA and was the son of the late Floyd G. Hensley and Virginia S. Good.

On January 16, 1939 he married Christine Violet Dean Hensley.

He was known for his love of farming, horses, hunting, music and dancing, his family and friends. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and could fix just about anything. As his children were growing up, he would work on cars or sharpen saws late into the night to provide the money to put his children through school. A little later in life you could often see him plowing a garden or making hay with at least one grandchild behind him on the wagon and of course it was always pulled by a John Deere. Oftentimes you could hear Randy Travis or Elvis Presley Playing "loudly" from their living room. His love of horses and ability to ride is well known. His horse, Starbuck was his pride and joy and offered him many hours of enjoyment and many trophies and rewards. His cat, Tinkerbelle, and his dogs, Penny and Dixie, were his loyal and faithful companions. He was truly an amazing person who worked so hard, never complained, and was a tremendous role model for all to follow.

Mr. Hensley was a member of the Mt. Olivet Christian Church, and was a United States Army Veteran of WWII. He had previously worked at Hensley's Auto Sales in Elkton, Forbert Corporation for nearly 13 years, and retired from Continental Telephone Company with 30 years of loyal service.

Surviving are five daughters, Janice Shifflette and her husband, Jim, Elaine Diehl and her husband, Bobby all of McGaheysville, Doris Shifflett of Mt. Solon, Barbara Redifer of Elkton, Judy Keyser and her husband, Billy of Richmond; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Austin Toombs; sister-in-law, Almeda Hensley.

He will be joining his wife, Christine, son-in-law, Ralph Redifer and a grandson, Brian Keyser who have previously gone to meet the Lord.

Pastor, friend and brother in the Lord, Wayne Wright will conduct the funeral service 11am Thursday, July 31, 2014 at the Mt. Olivet Christian Church near McGaheysville. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8:30 Wednesday evening at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Mt. Olivet Christian Church Need Fund, 38 Mount Olivet Church Road, Elkton, VA 22827.
