Howard R. Hensley

Howard "Pappy" Randolph Hensley died Wednesday, April 12, 2000, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital after not being well for the past three years.

A son of the late Floyd Grover and Anna Gertrude Hensley Hensley, he was born October 8, 1929, in Rockingham County.

Mr. Hensley was educated in Rockingham County Schools and lived all his life in McGaheysville. He served in the United States Army during Korea and worked as a truck drive for forty years until his retirement in 1997.

He was married to Mary Frazier Hensley, who survives.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law, Delmas E. Hensley and wife, Mary of Verona, Keith A. Hensley and wife, Wanda of McGaheysville, Randy Lee Hensley, of McGaheysville, Phillip W. Hensley and wife, Judy of Verona and Donnie R. Hensley and wife, Betty, of Portland, OR; three daughters, Gloria A. Hensley and Debbie K. Hensley, both of McGaheysville and Mary C. Wetnight and husband Chuck of Brazil, IN; eighteen grandchildren, Conway E. Hensley, Keith A. Hensley, Jr., Erika L. Hensley, Melissa D. Hensley, Floyd G. Hensley, Jamie L. Hensley, Chantel R. Hensley, Kristy S. Hensley, Helen D. Hensley Dandrea, Shana L. Hensley, Bethany L. Hensley, Jonathan T. Hensley, Jason P. Wetnight, Matthew B. Wetnight, Gregory C. Wetnight, Joel L. Hensley, Alex N. Wetnight and Suzanne E. Hensley; five great-grandchildren, Kristen Espinoza, Brittany Hensley, Claudia Hensley, Gwenyth Dandrea and Lauren Dandrea; one brother, Clyde Grover Hensley of McGaheysville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Edith E. Toombs and husband, Austin of Spotsylvania and Margie Lee Stroop and husband, Bunny of Penn Laird; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hensley was preceeded [sic] in death by two brothers, Jesse J. Hensley and Floyd K. "Tiny" Hensley, one sister, Frances Breeden and one grandson, Michael Wetnight.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2000 (today) at 2 p.m. at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Chapel with Ted Johnson and Terry Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Mr. Hensley's body was taken to his residence Friday, where it will remain until 9 a.m. today. Friends may call at his residence at any time.
