C. Burgett, a pioneer of this section and one of the best known of the older settlers, passed peacefully from this life at his home in Buzzard Springs, Okla., May 17th, at 9 p.m., at the ripe old age of 81 years, after a brief illness caused by a complication of heart and kidney trouble. He bore his illness with fortitude and, at the last, when he realized the end was near, summoned near neighbors to witness the arrangement of his earthly affairs, and then prepared for the final summons by making his peace with the Master. His frail body then succumbed to unconsciousness and death came quietly and peacefully in the quiet evening hours.
The remains were brought to Hennessey by his son John, of Humbolt, Neb., who was with the deceased in his last hours. The funeral services were held at Union Chapel Thursday afternoon, Rev. Robert Lee Payne, officiating. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery in accordance with the expressed wish of the deceased.
The deceased came to Oklahoma when the territory was young, homesteading a quarter-section in the Strip, thirteen miles northeast of Hennessey, and the many warm friends he made here during his long residence, will learn of the death of their old friend and neighbor with deep regret.
The deceased removed from Hennessey to Buzzard Springs, near Grove, Okla., about four years ago, where his grandson, Charles Burgett, and adopted daughter, Vina Burgett, made their home with him.
In addition to more distant relatives, he is survived by five children by his first wife, whose death occurred at Geonoa Junction, Wis., in 1871, and two of the three boys by his second helpmeet, whose death took place at the home place seventeen years ago. The death of his third wife occurred in 1912.
Two sons, C. H. Burgett, of Newby, Okla., and John Burgett, of Humbolt, Neb., Charles Burgett, grandson, and *Vina Burgett, adopted daughter of the deceased, were here for the funeral on Thursday.

From The Hennessey Clipper (Hennessey, Okla.), Vol. 24, No. 50, Thursday, May 21, 1914.

*Note: Vina Burgett was Lovina Aleatha "Vina" Woods, the adopted daughter of Lovina Elnor (Wicoff) Burgett (3rd wife of Cornelius Burgett) and her 2nd husband, Robert Woods. Vina was born about 1892 in Missouri. (See bio for Lovina Elnor Wicoff Burgett - Memorial# 128673649) [RS]
