Louis was the son of Levi Francis Salyer & Alafair Delaney Skaggs Salyer. He married Luella Grace Kerr, the daughter of James Harvey Kerr & Rachel Viola Meeker Kerr, on March 20, 1915 in Scioto County, Ohio.

They were the parents of Leroy Enver, Juanita, Bernard, Geneva Pauline, Anna Frances, George Washington, John Phelps, Naomi Jane, Harvey Eugene, Andrew Coleman and Delores Ellen Salyer. The couple's marriage ended in divorce.

Mr. Salyer was a retired railroad conductor for the C&O Railroad. He passed away, in that company's hospital, from the effects of a myocardial infarction, complicated by an arteriosclerotic coronary thrombosis.
