Harriet was the eighth of nine children born to John Person More and Olive Peck More. She was raised at Roxbury where her father was a prominent farmer and grist mill owner. Harriet married to Edgar B. Sanford on 6 October 1856. They made their home first at Middletown, Delaware County, New York. They relocated to Catskill, New York about 1875 and to New York City about 1880 where, at all places, her husband was a carpenter. Harriet and Edgar were the parents of one son, Watson More Sanford and one adopted daughter, Polly May Sanford.
*Note-Family records indicate that Harriet was born 1 January 1837.
