Liberty was the third of nine children born to John Person More and Olive Peck More. He was raised at Roxbury where his father was a farmer. He attended the district school before completing his education at Jefferson Academy. He first clerked for Mr. Bidwell at Roxbury. He then clerked for B. G. Morss at Prattsville, New York. He clerked with Voorhees, VanAnden, and Masten at Kingston, New York before returning to Prattsville where he clerked at several different mercantiles. In the spring of 1854, he joined into a mercantile partnership with his uncle, E. T. Peck, at Durham, New York. About 1860, his uncle sold his interest to Liberty’s brother, Watson Dennis More, and about 1866 they sold the mercantile. Liberty moved to a farm at Cairo, near Durham, about 1869 and lived there until about 1878 when he sold it to his brother, Owen Wickes More, and relocated to Brooklyn, New York where he was the proprietor of a boot and shoe store. Liberty was active in his community at Durham serving as Postmaster, United States Loan Commissioner, United States Revenue Assessor, and town Clerk. He was associated with Sons of Temperance, International Order of Odd Fellows, and Free and Accepted Masons. In his church, he served as Superintendent of Sunday School, Trustee, Class-Leader, and Steward. Liberty served the John More Association as a member of the Permanent Committee. Liberty married to Ann Mary Selleck on 16 February 1859 at Hyde Park, New York. Liberty and Ann had no children of their own but raised his sister’s son, George Liberty Shutts, after the death of his brother-in-law in 1860. About 1910, they relocated permanently to Springfield, Massachusetts nearer to George's residence.
