Newell Anderson "Andy" Winget, age 84, passed peacefully from this earthly existence on November 13, 1998 and was once again reunited with his sweetheart, Reba.

Andy was born in Monroe, Utah, September 21, 1914, to Luther and Lavina Winget. He married his sweetheart, Reba Young, in Richfield, June 26, 1937; later sealed May 23, 1940 in the Manti LDS Temple, Reba preceded him in death May 11, 1997. He attended Utah State Agricultural School in Logan, after which he returned to Monroe to farm. He was a farmer for 12 years. Then he bought a grocery store in Monroe and operated Andy's Market for 28 years before retiring. He has been active in civic affairs serving as president of the Monroe Lions Club; president and vice president of the Homer C. Olsen Senior Citizens and served on the Sevier County Zoning Committee. He also served three, four-year terms on the Monroe City Council. He has been active in his church activities serving as scoutmaster, Elders Quorum President, Bishop of the Monroe North Ward, High Council, and as Stake Patriarch for 18 years. He and his wife served as LDS Missionaries in the New England Boston Massachusetts Mission. Andy has enjoyed fishing, gardening, watching sports, golfing, and family cookouts. He has been a great influence to all that have known him. A wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. His example of love and charity will be missed by all.He is survived by his two children: Betty (Garth) Johnson of Monroe; and Robert (Linda) Winget of Laie, Hawaii; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers: Quintin Frank (Maxine) Winget of Midvale; Oscar (Carla) Winget of Monroe; five sisters: Wanda Johnson and Glenda (Viton) Smith both of Fountain Green; Vera (Carl) Richards of Provo; Lona Brown of Murray; Betty Jo (Cliff) Stewart of Monroe. Preceded in death by parents, Luther and Lavina Winget; sister, Nora (Theo) Wright; brothers, Luther J. Winget and Znos Winget.


Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 17, 1998 at 1 p.m. in the Monroe 4th LDS Ward Chapel, 49 East 200 North, Monroe. Friends may call at the ward chapel in Monroe Tuesday morning from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Monroe City Cemetery. Funeral Directors, Neal S. Magleby & Sons Mortuary, Richfield, Utah.
