Jeanne Florence Leighton Lundberg Clarke
1925 - 2014

Early Life: Jeanne was born August 12, 1925, in Alpena, Michigan, to John Lundberg and Jeannette Leighton Lundberg. She grew up with her sister, Mary. The family lived in Michigan, Ohio and Illinois.
Education: South Shore High School | University of Chicago | Art Institute of Chicago | Brigham Young University
Life's Work | Service | Interests: Following her graduation from South Shore High School in Chicago, Illinois, she attended the University of Chicago and the Art Institute of Chicago. While living there, Jeanne worked as an artist at a small advertising agency and met John E. Clarke, whom she married on July 15, 1948. They soon welcomed their oldest daughter, Karen, followed by Susan and a son, Matthew. In 1958, the family moved to Westport, Connecticut, where Jeanne continued to raise her children and pursue her lifelong passion for drawing, sculpting, watercolor and oil painting. In 1974, at the age of 49, Jeanne moved to Provo, Utah, where she recommenced her education after 30 years, at Brigham Young University. She received both a Bachelors of Fine Arts and a Masters of Fine Arts from BYU. After graduation, Jeanne dedicated her life to the arts. Her paintings have been described as exuberant, colorful and symbolic. Jeanne's artistic sensibility extended to other areas of her life. She studied literature, philosophy, architecture, music, had beautiful clothing and loved design. Jeanne was vibrant, a woman full of life and vigor, with a sharp intellect and a boisterous sense of humor. Sadly, some of the promise of Jeanne's career and independence was curtailed by her struggle with Alzheimer's Disease, compromising 14 years of her life. She was able to stay in her home and was cared for by her family, by thoughtful neighbors and by a loving staff at ICare Home and Health Hospice. Jeanne Leighton Lundberg Clarke, beautiful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in her home on February 16, 2014. She was 88.
