Richard Lee Waterman, 39, of Sioux City, died suddenly Saturday at his home. Woodbury County Medical Examiner, Dr. Thomas Coriden ruled the cause of death was a heart attack.
Services were at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Hawarden. The Rev. Arthur J. DeNeui officiated. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery under direction of the Dow Funeral Home at Hawarden.
Mr. Waterman was born Oct. 21, 1939 at Hawarden and attended school here. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1957 to 1960. He married Ruby Gabel on March 9, 1961 at South Sioux City. The couple lived in Sioux City since 1961. He was employed at American Freight Systems for 13 years.
Survivors include the widow; 3 daughters, Angelia, Jody and Bobbi all at home; a stepson, Steve Gabel of Elk Point; 3 step daughters, Mrs. Robert (Teresa) Book of Akron, Mrs. LeRoy (Susan) Thompson of Fort Thompson, SD, and Mrs. Gerald (Geraldine) Day of Canton, SD; his mother, Mrs. Wayne (Daisy) Hedden of Hawarden; his stepfather, Wayne of Hawarden; 7 brothers, Dennis of Jefferson, SD, David of Sioux City and Bruce, Larry, Rodney, Terry and Darvin all of Hawarden; 3 stepsisters, Mrs. Gerrit (Sharon) Van Noort and Mrs. Gary (Kim) Albers both of Hawarden and Mrs. Gary (Donna) Hendricks of Laurens, Iowa; 4 stepbrothers, Kerry Hedden of Remsen, and Joe Hedden, Kirby Hedden, and Cody Hedden, all of Hawarden, & 4 stepgrandchildren.
