Ruthmarie Jones Fahrney, 86, a resident of Grottoes, passed away Thursday evening, Feb. 6, 2014, at the Harrisonburg Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Feb. 7, 1927, in Hagerstown, Md., and was a daughter of the late Lewis Reish and Ruth Irene Dusang Jones.

Mrs. Fahrney graduated from Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, Md. She enjoyed a career as a professional radio singer with an orchestra. In 1952, she moved to Harrisonburg with her husband and family. Mrs. Fahrney worked part time at James Madison University Registration for a number of years and enjoyed working the voting polls. She was a member of the Grottoes United Methodist Church.

On Feb. 5, 1949, she married Robert C. Fahrney, Sr., who preceded her in death April 25, 2004.

She is survived by three sons, Robert C. Fahrney Jr. and wife, Joan, of Grottoes, Joseph E. Fahrney of Hinton and Stephen M. Fahrney and special friend, Sherry Marshall, of Dayton; three daughters, Aileen M Fahrney Crider and Bill Miller of Harrisonburg, Andrea M. Fahrney Dean and husband, Wesley, of Port Republic and Jeanne L. Fahrney of Port Republic. She also leaves seven grandchildren, Lisa Raynes, James Andrews, Tara Taylor, Cody Fahrney, Luke Fahrney, Grady Fahrney and Kristine Fahrney; and three great-grandchildren, Keeston Raynes, Macie Raynes and Savanna Taylor; and several nieces and nephews, including her very special niece, Suzanne Burk Lushbaugh.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Andrew J. Jones; and two sisters, Margaret Roseanne Jones Burk and Alta Florence Jones Blalock.

Funeral services will be held at 11 Wednesday morning, Feb. 12, 2014, at the Chapel of the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home with the Rev. D. Glen Langston officiating. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 Tuesday evening at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the National Parkinson Association.
