A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 30, 2005 at First United Methodist Church of Roswell for E.P. Messick 79, of Dexter, NM , who passed away on July 26, 2005 at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center. Rev. Stephen Deutsch will officiate. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery.

E.P. was born on Jun 25, 1926 in Springer, NM to Jesse Paul Messick and Elsie Langford Messick. Both parents preceded him in death, as well as a sister, Jessie Mae Alexander, and brother-in-law, Dino Rosso.

On November 15, 1947 he married Betty Jean Harper in Las Cruces, NM. She survives him at the family home. Other survivors include sons Philip Messick and his wife Marsha of Cochise, AZ; Jim Messick Of Roswell, NM; daughter Jeannie Rodgers and her husband Mark of Dexter, NM; brothers Norman Messick and hiw wife Pearl of Commerce, TX; Harlan Messick and his wife Gaylia of Bourne, TX; sisters Fern Randall and her husband Greg of Las Cruces, NM and Nita Rosso of Santa Clara, CA; four grandchildren Alison Messick, Drew Rodgers, Dani Rodgers, and Jesse Messick, and numerous nieces and nephews.

E.P. joined the U.S. Navy and served his country during WWII. After the Navy, he went to college and graduated from NM A&M. He thenwent on to teach Agriculture in Moriarity, Santa Rosa, and Amisatd before moving to Dexter.He was Principal of Dexter High School and two years later, E.P. became Superintendent of the Dexter School District for 19 years until his retirement. E.P. also served as County Commissioner of Chaves County. During his retirement E.P. love to farm, fish and raise sheep. He was a member of Dexter United Methodist Church. E.P. will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ballard Funeral Home and Crematory.
