Norman Ray Messick, 77, of Campbell, died Thursday in Tyler.

Born in Wellington on Oct. 19, 1928, he was the son of J.P. Messick and Elise Langford Messick. He married Pearl Thomas Messick on Jan. 12, 1957 in Hereford. He was a rancher, who loved his family, grandchildren, his land and his cows. He was living his life exactly as he wanted to do. He worked hard and long hours and loved every minute of it. His children and grandchildren were the joy of his life.

He graduated with a degree in Animal Husbandry from New Mexico State University at Las Cruces NM and also did graduate work at the University of Florida in Animal Husbandry.

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force who served in the Korean War and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Commerce. He is survived by his wife, of Campbell; three children, Gary Messick of Campbell, Dianna Messick Nagler of Panama City, Fla, and Max Nagler of Panama city, Fla.; two sisters Nita Rosso of Santa Cruz, and Fern Randall of Las Cruces, NM.; and one brother, Harlan Messick of Boerne.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Jessie Mae Alexander and a brother E.P. Messick.
