Joseph served with the 31st Battalion in WWI. At 6 feet and 11 inches, he was the tallest man in the Canadian Army.

LAWRENCE--January 15, at Bellingham, Washington, Joseph Johnson Lawrence, aged 75 years, beloved father of Mrs. J.R. (Chrissie) Aikens, Okotoks. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, came to Swift Current in 1908, to Calgary in 1912 and was with the CPR Police. Served overseas in World War I, returning to Calgary in 1918. Moved to Guelph in 1925 and came to Okotoks in 1949.

Predeceased by his wife, Agnes, at Guelph in 1943. Survived by his daughter; a son, James, LaCanada, California; two grandchildren; a sister, Miss Mary Lawrence, Calgary.
