James P. Elkins Sr., 79, of North Summit Avenue, Gaithersburg, husband of Helen F. Elkins, died Sunday at the Montgomery General Hospital, Olney.

He was born in Virginia, a son of the late Robert and Catherine Pickrell [Turner] Elkins.

He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Gaithersburg.

Surviving besides his wife are four daughters, Mrs. Pauline Carter, Darnestown, Mrs. Margaret Boswell, Rockville, Miss Elizabeth Elkins, Gaithersburg, and Mrs. Madeline Miller, Damascus; two sons, Milton O. Elkins, Magna, Utah, and James P. Elkins Jr., Buckeystown; a sister. Nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Olin L. Molesworth Funeral Home in Damascus today from 2 to 9 P.m. Services will be held at the funeral home, Wednesday at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Darnestown Presbyterian Cemetery.
