John was the 6th child of Alexander MacSween and Elvira Liddicoat. He was unable to enlist in World War II because he worked in construction and at that time he was working on the Alaskan Highway.
In the early 60's he married Ethel Vance of Listowel.

John died in a house fire in Huntsville on May 17th 1970.

He is sadly missed by his wife Ethel, his step-daughter Helen (John) Coles; his siblings Mary MacLeod, Wingham; Roy (Edna), Bluevale; Murdena MacDonald, Kincardine; Ruby (Art) Burrows, Whitechurch; Annie (Archie)Sinclar, Kincardine; Kate (Jack) MacDonald, Kincardine; Ken (Cathleen), Oakville; Betty (Blondie)O'Brien, Kincardine. He was predeceased by his parents, and brothers Harold (1922) and Creba (1969). He will be greatly missed by numerous nieces and nephews whom he spoiled all the time.

Funeral was held May 20, 1970 from the Linklater Funeral Home and was buried in the family plot, Kincardine Cemetery.
