Kenneth R. MacSween

Kenneth Reith MacSween passed away suddenly at Oakville on November 28, 1971.

Ken was born in Glammis on May 8, 1920, the son of the late Alexander MacSween and Elvira Liddicoat. While he was still a child the family moved to Kincardine and it was there that he attended Public School and High School.

When the Second World War broke out Ken enlisted in the R.C.A.F. He received his pilot’s wings at Trenton and in 1942 went overseas where he served as a fighter pilot and participated in air sea rescue. When hostilities ceased in 1945, Ken returned to Kincardine and resumed his former occupation with the Kincardine Creamery where he remained until 1957 when he became associated with Borden’s Limited of Toronto. This necessitated his moving to Oakville.

As a you man, Ken was active with the Rover Club and later with the Kincardine Kinsmen club and MacDonald Branch No. 183 of the Canadian legion. Ken’s concern for his fellow men endeared him to a host of friends.

On May 6, 1948, he was united in marriage with Kathleen Barry of Brooklyn, N.Y., who is left to mourn his loss along with two sons, Barry of Mount Hope, Ontario and Billy attending Waterloo University; and three daughters Maria, Margaret and Patricia at home.

Also surviving are one brother Roy of Wingham, and his six sisters; Mary (Mrs. Peter McLeod) of Wingham, Ruby (Mrs. Art Burrows) of Whitechurch, Mrs. Murdena MacDonald, Annie (Mrs. Archie Sinclair), Kate (Mrs. Jack MacDonald) and Betty (Mrs. Terence O’Brien) all of Kincardine. He was predeceased by two brothers Creba and John.

A memorial service was held by MacDonald Branch No. 183 of the Canadian Legion on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

A funeral service, held from the Linklater Funeral Home on Wednesday December1, was conducted by Rev. James Weir. Ken was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church. Interment was in Kincardine Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Cliff Little, Hugh Strachan, Morris Mahood, John Stone, Harold Thompson and A. H. Walsh.
