I am still researching FREDERICK GOTTLIEB MERKLE and his wife EMILY M CRANKSHAW MERKLE. They were my children's great grandparents.

Records show that Emily was born May 15, 1901, in New York. She was the daughter of William W ("Willie") Crankshaw, and his wife Annie M. Hittel.

On July 3, 1919 Emily married German immigrant Frederick Gottlieb Merkle, son of Johann Michael Merkle and his wife Christine Katharine Armbruster Merkle of Württemberg, Germany.

Fred & Emily were the parents of at least 7 children:

-Frederick G Peter Merkle (1920 – 1995)

-Margaret Josephine Merkle [Bavaro] (1921 – 2005)

-Robert Charles Merkle Sr (1925 – 1999)

-GLORIA MARIE MERKLE (1927 – 2009)

-Joseph James Merkle (1930 – 2009)

-Herbert William Merkle (1932 – 1962)

-Carol A Merkle (1939 – 2005)

Some time after the death of her husband in 1966, Emily moved to Elmira NY and lived for several years with her daughter Gloria and Gloria's family.

She later returned to Jamacia, where she died in January 1983. She is buried with Fred at Cypress Hills Cemetery.
