Immigration records show 19 year old Carl Häse* arrived at the Port of New York from Hamburg on 30 Sep 1856. He came with his father, Chr (presumably Christoph), age 59, his brother, Christoph, age 27, and brother, Albert, age 14, all from Prussia. The family sailed on the Hamburg bark, Raleigh (previously an English ship, sold and re-rigged). The voyage could have taken about 40 days.

* This name was later "Americanized" to the spelling HAESE to more closely approximate its pronunciation, due to the lack of an umlaut in the English alphabet.
A 21 year old Charles Hayse is found living at Manitowoc Co., WI, at the time of the 1860 Census, with a 75 year old Christopher Hayse.
Karl married Friedericke, who was possibly his second wife. Her grave marker is inscribed "gattin von Carl Haese" or "wife of Carl Haese." They are found on the 1880 US Census
