Fred Welsch, 79, 2017 Lincoln Blvd., died this morning at the Muscatine Care Center.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Ralph J. Wittich Funeral Home. Rev. Keith Sorenson will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation is after 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where a memorial fund has been established.
Fred Welsch was born Jan. 20, 1901 in Muscatine County, the son of Julius and Katherine Funk Welsch. He was a life resident of the Muscatine area.
His marriage to Leora Haley took place June 6, 1953 in Cranston. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Mr. Welsch was a retired farmer and at one time had owned a grocery store on Lincoln Boulevard.
Survivors include his wife; one step-son, Paul Haley of Muscatine; nine step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; one half-brother, Clayton of Muscatine; and one half-sister, Leila Anderson of Owen, Wis.
He was preceded in death by one step-son and a half-sister.
