George P. Nowels

George Paxton Nowels, 88, of Warsaw, a retired school teacher and farmer, died at 5 a.m. today at County Memorial hospital following a year's illness. He had been in the hospital two weeks.

He was born April 27, 1870, in Holmes county, a son of George and Elizabeth Purdy Nowels, and was married to the former Elizabeth Rodgers, who died in November, 1945.

Mr. Nowels taught school in Holmes county for 17 years before becoming an active farmer in Coshocton county. He retired as a farmer 16 years ago.

He was a member of the Warsaw Methodist church and at one time attended Ohio university and Wooster college.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Harold Besst, Warsaw Route 2, and Mrs. Richard Wynkoop, Mt. Vernon; two sons, Rodger Nowels, Gahanna, O., and Howard Nowels, Fremont, O.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Three brothers, three sisters and a daughter are deceased.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Fischer funeral home in charge of Rev. William Weinland. Burial will be in Valley View cemetery.

Friends will be received at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Thursday and until time of services Friday.
