Of the eight children born to Frank & Anise Parkins, Earl Franklin was the only one born outside the family's native Gallia Co., OH home. Earl was born in Berlin Cross Roads in Jackson, OH, the location of his father's 1st pastoral assignment by the Ohio Methodist Conference in 1893. Earl would become the 3rd child of Rev. Frank & Anise Parkins who would meet their future spouse as the result of his father's ministry. Earl was a 16 year old teenager in 1910 when his father served the Methodist Church in Coolville, Ohio. Obviously he never forgot the 17 year old Myrtle Russell, a farmer's daughter in the Coolville community, for he returned some ten years later to wed Myrtle Anna Russell on August 19, 1920. His 1917 Draft Registration reveals that Earl was employed by the C & O Railroad as a time keeper with offices in WV. Following the war, Earl & Myrtle made Cable Co., Huntington, WV their life-time home. Earl became a statistician for the C & O and his services in that capacity made him invaluable employee as a labor negotiator when resolving labor disputes & contracts. Like his father before him, Earl Franklin Parkins was a talented musician, playing with competence both the violin and piano. The great void in his married life was the fact that he and his wife could not have a family after several failures. At Christmas, the children of their siblings & cousins became "their children". Earl Parkins, the creator of this memorial, was a first cousin - once removed to Earl Franklin Parkins and named in his honor. Earl Franklin Parkins lived to be 90 years - 8 months and 18 days at death.
