Like her older sister (Laura Parkins Gunder) Della Parkins likely met her future husband as the result of her father's pastoral assignment. Rev. Frank Parkins had served the Buchtel charge in northern Athens Co. in the early 1900's. At the age of 21, Della would wed the son of a coal miner, Walter B. King of Sand Run in Ward Twp., Hocking Co., OH, on Aug. 15, 1907. The "Sand Run" community was near Buchtel in Athens. Co. Census data reveals the Della and her husband resided in Nelsonville, OH in 1910 and was residing in Columbus OH by 1920 where Walter was employed by a railroad freight company. There is no record that they had children. The attached death record reveals that Della Parkins King died at the age of 36 years in 1923 and was interred in the Union Cemetery, Columbus, OH where her parents and a brother lay at rest. Her widowed husband would return to Athens CO where the 1930 census reports his residing in the Coolville community. Prior to 1940, he married his 2nd wife, Dora M. of WV. Social Security records reveal that Walter B. King died May 1963, the same year as the passing of his former brother-in-law, Dr. George R. Gunder who also resided in the village of Coolville, Athens, OH.
