Viola "BERNICE" Tippett Mayberry, 82, of Springfield died Saturday, March 3, 2001 at Walnut Ridge Nursing Home. She was the daughter of David Eli and Luella Mae Sewell Tippett. She married Alfred Harper in 1937; he preceded her in death in 1940. Their two sons also preceded her in death. She later married Ray Mayberry in 1943; he preceded her in death in 1988.
Bernice was a member of the Elliott Baptist Church,where she was active in the Ladies Aid and Berean Keystone Sunday school class.
Survivors: a son, Ernie Mayberry of Springfield; a daughter, Sherry Freeman of Smyrna, TN; four grandchildren; five g-grandchildren; a brother, Richard (Marlene) Tippett of Joilet; five sisters, Elsie (Dr. Russell) Hill of St. Petersburg, FL; Mary Jane Foutch of New Berlin, Nora Ellen (Donald) Tippett of Mission, TX, Gaye (James) Kline of Phoenix, AZ, and Pat (Jesse) of Braceville; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Ellinger-Kunz and Davis Funeral Home, the Rev. Dianna Strump officiating. Burial: Oak Ridge Cemetery. Friedns who wish may make contributions to Elliott Avenue Baptist Church.
