David Tippett, 58, of Petersburg, died at 7 am Wednesday at St. John's Hospital, of injuries received last Sun. when the car he was driving overturned near the Richard Allen home, two miles south of Atterberry on the gravel road. The injured man was thrown from the car when it left it's wheels, and was thrown across a ditch. He suffered head, chest and internal injuries.
Also injured in the wreck were Tippett's son, Raymond, 19, who suffered injuries to his neck and abrasions to the back and right leg; and Ora Thomas, 66, who received abrasions and lacerations to the face and injury to the right elbow.
All three injured men were taken to St. John's Hospital in the Hurley ambulance.
Mr. Tippett was born in Menard County on Feb. 21, 1896, a son of Francis and Sarah Jane Clemons Tippett. He had spent all his life in this vicinity, and for many years had been engaged as a roofer. He was married March 12, 1916, to Luella Sewell, who survives along with the following children: Mrs. Bernice Mayberry, Springfield; Mrs. Beulah Mae Watts, Springfield; Mrs. Elsie Hill, Tampa, FL; Mrs. Mary Jane Foutch, Springfield; Harold Tippett of Springfield; Miss Nora E. Tippett, Pekin; Raymond, Richard, Gaye and Pat, at home. Also surviving are ten grandchildren; and three brothers, Frank, Antle and Oscar Tippett, all of Petersburg.On daughter, Christine, died in May, 1953.
The body was taken to the Thompson-Harms & Hurley funeral home where sevices will be held at 10 am Friday, June 18th, conducted by Rev. Ellsworth Young. Burial will be in Farmer's Point Cemetery. Petersburg Observer June 1954
