Willie was the son of Marcus Lafayette and Mary Christine Shelton Plunk. His father died when he was young, and he went to live with an uncle in Arkansas, and then moved on to southern Oklahoma. Across the state line was Vernon, Texas where he met and married Josie Wilson Fain in 1909. He farmed and they bought a place in Hedley, TX that is still owned by family members.
Their children are Edith Kathleen, Rowe Aster, Olon Crawford, William Clay, and Joel Allen Plunk. He is survived by two daughters.
