"Lester M. RAFFERTY, 61, died Sept 6, 1960 in Methodist Hospital, Rochester, MN after a two-week illness. He underwent surgery a week ago. Born Sept 10, 1898 he lived in New Richmond and Linden communities before moving to Lafayette 15 years ago. He married Velva L. McCormick. Graduate of Wingate schools and employed by Purdue University. Prior to that was a guard at Michigan City and Putnamville State Prisons and worked one year at Alco during WWII at Lafayette. Was a member of the Elmdale Church and 25-year-member of New Richmond F & AM. Surviving are wife; 3 sons: Leland C; Charles L and Lester; a daughter, Mrs. Paul Brandlein; two sisters: Mrs. Anna Brennan and Mrs. Paul Hardin; 3 brothers, Leslie A; Clarence and Kenneth of Waveland. Funeral services were held at Heppensteel Funeral Home, Lafayette; graveside rites by F & AM in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. His brother, Harry was buried just a week before."
