Floyd James Stanley, age 85, of St. Martins Point passed away suddenly on April 13, 2006 at War Memorial Hospital in Sault St. Marie.

He was born in Farwell on March 10, 1921 to Clair and Mabel (Myers) Stanley. Floyd was a 1939 graduate of Hayes Agricultural School (Harrison High School) participating in Varsity Basketball for four years. He married Irene Pifer with which he had had two sons, Michael Stanley who died as an infant and Richard Stanley. Floyd and Irene separated and Irene passed away in 1971. Floyd was united in marriage to Ruth (Cooley) Fosnight on October 30, 1947 who preceded him in death on February 7, 1981.

Floyd, who has made his home since 1981 by Hessel, was involved in woodworking, Cedarville High School sports teams, teaching students in the region square dancing and working part time at Les Cheneaux Golf Course where he greet everyone with a smile. Floyd had owned a gas station in Lansing. He worked in Clare at Holly Carburetor, for his brother Leon Stanley at Stanley Oil and Witbeck's IGA. He has been a member of Saginaw Valley Callers Association, coach in the Farwell Little League Association. Deacon of Harrison Congregational Church and numerous golf and bowling leagues.

Surviving are his children Richard and Kitty Stanley of Charlotte, Leigh Wood of Clare, David and Donna Stanley of Lake Orion; seven grandchildren Elaine and Jeff Pruden of Farwell, Allen Wood of Lake, Stephen and Holly Stanley of Lansing, Jennifer and Tony DiSpirito of Grand Rapids and Adam, Amanda and Andrew Stanley of Lake Orion; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Otis, Leon and Leonard Stanley.

Memorial services were held Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at the Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home with Pastor Denny Emmons from Gingellville Community Church of Lake Orion officiating and David's sister-in-law Cheri Woodman of Saginaw delivering the eulogy. Visitation was held prior to the services. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society.

The family is planning a second memorial in the Upper Peninsula at a later date.
