Merle D Grover

Merle Dean Grover, 64, of Spencer, passed away Saturday, April 17, 2004 at his home in Spencer. Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. Rev. Roger Linnan officiates the 10 a.m. service. Burial is in Fairview Cemetery in Langdon, with military services performed by Estherville American Legion, Post #3388.

Casket beares are Calvin Alger, Ben Lawrence, Chris Christensen, Patrick "P.J." Koch, Lance Smith, and Jerry Neilsen.

Merle Dean Grover, the son of Lewis and Georgia Miles Grover, was born July 27, 1939 in Clay County. He received his education in Gillett Grove and graduated from there in 1958.

On May 27. 1959, Merle entered the army and served with them until the time of his honorable discharge on April 30, 1962 at Fort Hamilton, N.Y.

On Feb. 27, 1965, Merle married Mary Krage Conway at the Assumption Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. Following their marriage they lived in the Langdon area and he had worked at Spencer Foods for 20 years. He also worked at the Farmers Coop Elevator for seven years and National Spencer for 15 years. In August of 2003, they moved to Spencer.

Mr. Grover was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Melissa Lowman; brothers Lynn "Bud", Howard, Russell "Gus", and Ervin; sister Hazel; and his father-in-law, James E. Conway.

Merle is survived by his wife, Mary of Spencer; his children Lewis Grover of Milford, Mary Ann and Shawn Smith of Fostoria, Angela Jensen of Everly, Audrey Grover of Estherville, Krista and Ben Petersen of Worthington, Minn., Georgia Wright and Sharleen "Charlie" Grover, both of Spencer; a son-in-law, Harold Lowman of Emmetsburg; 19 grandchildren; sisters Charlotte Alger of Emmetsburg, Helen Stephas of Spencer, and Eleanor Daniel of Langdon; mother-in-law Harriet Conway of Emmetsburg; sisters-in-law Carol Grover of Alta; Thora and Velma Grover, both of Spencer; other relatives and friends.
