When about ten years of age the family moved to Villisca. About four years later, they moved to Carbon where Pete attended schools and grew to manhood.
Most of his life was spent in Carbon, where he operated a butcher shop. It was here he built his reputation as one of the most honest and finest butchers in the territory and one whose hand of friendship was always extended to those in need.
After closing his shop in Carbon, he moved to Corning where he followed the meat cutter's trade until health made it impossible for him to continue.
He was united in marriage to Julia Stevens and to this union a son was born, who died in infancy. A nephew, Francis Runser, was taken into the home where he was cared for as a son. He also helped care for his parents during their declining years.
In addition to his parents and infant son, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Mark and Jack; a half-brother, William Hewitt; four sisters, Mrs. Sarah Bennington, Mrs. Mary Runser, Mrs. Celia Barnett, and Lily Sheridan, who died as an infant.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Amanda Hunter of Carbon, one sister-in-law, Mrs. Emma Sheridan, several nieces and nephews, and their families and a great many friends.
Services were held Monday, January 21, 1957 at 1:30 p.m. from the Roland Funeral Home in Corning, with the Rev. Louis Hunter in charge. Interment was in Quincy Cemetery.
