James Marcus Sheridan, youngest son of James and Sarah Johnson Sheridan, was born in Jo Daviess County, Illinois on August 15, 1875 and departed this life at his home in Carbon on Wednesday, at 11:20 p.m. suffering from a long illness, at the age of 73 years, 5 months, and 4 days. He has lived in and around Adams County for many years, moving to his farm from Villisca, where he lived for several years and was engaged in the grocery business. He carried the Star Route for 42 years. His former wife and two daughters preceded him in death some years ago, also his parents, two brothers, and three sisters. He was married to Mrs. Emma Farlin on March 10, 1928, and she with a daughter, Mrs. Geraldine Houck and husband Verlin are left to mourn his loss; also two grandsons, Larry Dean Haggerty and Richard Houck; one step-son, L. A. Farlin of Ava, Missouri; one brother Pete Sheridan of Corning; two sisters, Mrs. Ed Bennington of Nodaway and Mrs. Warren Hunter of Carbon and may other relatives and friends.
He joined the Methodist Church in villisca and has been a true member all his life. He was a kind and loving husband and a good father and a friend to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by all.
Services were held Friday afternoon at one o'clock from the Methodist Church at Carbon, conducted by Rev. Donald Cutler and burial was at Massena Cemetery.
Music was furnished by Lois Cooper and Warren Routh with Velma Routh as pianist. Pall bearers were John Robison, Eva Amdor, George Nicks, Lloyd Dhone, Francis Gaskill and Herbert Eggen. Those from out of town who attended the services were Mr. and Mrs. Donald Wilkinson of Atlantic; Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Gourley and family of Villisca.
