William D Wike was the son of David and Polly [Diel] Weik. He attended school as a child and was a Blacksmith by profession.
Born and raised in Catawba County, North Carolina, William married Sarah A. Detter on Jan. 26, 1860. They had one son, William P. Wike.

Enlisted in Company K, 46th Infantry Regiment North Carolina on Apr. 16, 1862, William D Wike was wounded in the Battle of Wilderness on May 5, 1864, and later killed, Company K, 46th Infantry Regiment North Carolina on Aug. 25, 1864, during the Second Battle of Reams Station in Virginia.
Side served: Confederacy; State served: North Carolina

After William's death, Sarah married widower Elon M Starr in 1872 and had 2 more children.
