Clarence Gourley Dies at Hospital
Services Planed Friday at Flinn Funeral Home
Clarence Gourley, age 73, 253 South Edwards Street, died in Johnson County Memorial Hospital Wednesday morning at 6:35 o'clock. He had been a patient at the hospital since Tuesday afternoon.
For the past five years, Mr. Gourley had been confined to a wheel chair but his condition became critical only Tuesday.
Funeral service will be conducted at the Flinn mortuary Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. James T. Lawson, of the Tabernacle Christia Church, officiating. Interment is to take place in Greenlawn Cemetery.
Friends may call at the mortuary Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 o'clock, Thursday afternoon and in the evening from 7 to 9. They are invited to attend the rites.
Born in Nineveh, June 13, 1875, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Gourley. For the past 46 years Mr. Gourley had been a resident of Franklin.
In 1903, he was married to Miss Alice Hill and to this union one daughter was born.
Before his first illness about five years ago, Mr. Gourley was known throughout Johnson County as and interior and exterior decorator, and for four years he served as sexton of Greenlawn Cemetery.
His hobbies were bees and domestic rabbits. He was a member of the Bee Keepers Association of America and Rabbit and Cavies Breeders Association for many years prior to his illness. He was a member of the Tabernacle Christian Church, and for 50 years was a member of the Nineveh Masonic Lodge.
Mr. Gourley is survived by the wide, the daughter, Mrs. Claude Swengle and a granddaughter, Claudette, all of Franklin. Three brothers, A. L. Gourley, of Kokomo; C. C. Gourley, of Edinburg; and George Courley, of Anderson, two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Deer, and Mrs. Mattie Simpson, both of Indianapolis also remain.
