Augustus "Gush" Williams and William Elliott Williams were twins, and descendants from both brothers knew about the other twin. Neither brother gave the same date of birth to their families, causing their descendants great confusion. William said he was born 23 Jan 1810. Augustus told his family he was born on 30 Dec 1809. To date, no written record of their births has been found.
Augustus was originally buried in the Ledbetter Family Cemetery, Dawson County, Georgia on the home place of his father-in-law, Johnson Ledbetter. That cemetery was later renamed and is now known as the Kelly Family Cemetery. Years later (about 1909) his descendants moved his body to the Shilo Methodist Church North Cemetery, Ball Ground, Cherokee County, Georgia where his wife, Sarah, was buried.
Augustus and Sarah Williams lost their son, Jonathan Whiteside Williams, in the Civil War. Jonathan was their third child, born on 19 Mar 1844 in Lumpkin County, GA. Jonathan joined the C.S.A Army and was killed on 8 Feb 1862, about one month before his 18th birthday, at the Battle of Roanoke Island in North Carolina. We have no record of his burial.
