Harold R. Beecher, 81, of 1884 Walnut Bottom Road, Newville, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, in Carlisle Regional Medical Center.

Born Aug. 12, 1922, in Walnut Bottom, he was a son of the late John R. and Verna E. Beecher.
Mr. Beecher was an Army veteran of World War II and a retired carpenter who worked for the Charley-Roger Construction Co., Newville, for more than 20 years.
He was a member of the Newville Failor-Wagner American Legion Post 421 and a charter member of the Penn Township Volunteer Fire Company. He enjoyed hunting and the outdoors.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Margaret "Peg" C. (Davidson) Beecher of Newville; four sons, Michael E. Beecher and Daniel R. Beecher, both of Shippensburg, Thomas B. Beecher of Newville and John A. Beecher of Carlisle; two daughters, Margaret A. Clifford of Newville and Nancy L. Widney of Orrstown; a brother, Donald Beecher of Carlisle; a sister, Evelyn LeDane of Pine Grove; 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Harold R. Beecher Jr.; a grandson, Justin Beecher; and a brother, Lynn Beecher.
Memorial services with military honors provided by Cumberland County Honor Squad will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with the Rev. Carol Bowman officiating.
Burial will be in Centerville Memorial Park, Penn Township.
