Mrs. Abel was born Aug. 15, 1918, in Riesel, the daughter of George A. Behringer and Marie Matthys Behringer. She married Edwin B. Abel on Jan 4, 1940, at Grace Lutheran Church in Mart. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school from 1933 to 1988. She was a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League for more than 40 years. She worked for McLennan County Dept. of Agriculture (A.S.C.S.) as chief clerk with 25 years of service. Following her retirement with A.S.C.S., she worked for Waco Pathology as a courier. She loved to travel and take pictures.
She is survived by her husband, Edwin B. Abel of Waco; two daughters, Ruth Scheffer, and her husband Leslie of Rosebud, and Carol Emley and her husband Dave of Waco; one son, Dr. Alan Abel and his wife, Audrey of Plainview; three sisters, Delva Lehrmann of Riesel, Fae Althage, and Inez Geltemeyer, all of Waco; two brothers, Ocie Behringer of Dayton, Tenn. and Spencer Behringer of Washington, Mo.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
