Dies at Age 90
George A. Behringer, 90, died Monday afternoon in a Waco hospital. He had been taken to the hospital last week from the Mart nursing home where he had been living for some time.
Mr. Behringer was a life-long resident of the Riesel community, having been born here on Aug. 4, 1888. He was the last immediate survivor of the Gottlieb A. Behringer family, which included Mrs. Will Tieman, Mrs. H. F. Meier Sr., Mrs. Jim Capps, Will Behringer, Henry Behringer, Adolph Behringer, Guy Behringer, Fred Behringer and George Behringer.
On Nov. 18, 1917, he married Marie Matthys of the Battle community and together they made their home near Riesel. Mrs. Behringer died March 13, 1978. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Mart.
Survivors are four daughters, Mrs. Edwin (Evelyn) Abel and Mrs. Albert (Delva) Lehrmann, both of Riesel, Mrs. Allen (Fae) Althage and Mrs. Johnnie (Inez) Geltemeyer, both of Waco; two sons, Rev. O. N. Behringer of Sandusky, Mich., and Spencer A. Behringer of Washington, Mo, 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He married Marie Pauline Matthys on 18 Nov 1917 in Battle, McLennan County, Texas. He owned a farm in Riesel for many years. He was the last survivor of the Gottlieb (G. A.) Behringer family. Gottlieb is buried at Meier Settlement Cemetery.
