Funeral of Mrs. Cook
The funeral of the late Mrs. B.F. Cook will be held at the First M.E. church this afternoon at 2 o'clock. (Sioux City Journal, Sioux City, IA, June 2, 1894)

Death of Mrs. Cook
Mrs. Mary J. Cook died at her home,1328 Jennings street, Sioux City, June 1, 1894, at 1:30 A.M.

Mary J. Andre Cook was born in Columbiana county, Ohio, July 6, 1847. She came with her parents to Scott county, Iowa, in 1865, was married to B.F. Cook December 27, 1871. She came to Sioux City with her family in 1886.

Mrs. Cook was a woman of very decided Christian character and of an unusual degree of natural refinement and purity. For fifteen years she was a ponsistent member of the M.E. church. During her long sickness her faith in her saviour never faltered, but grew brighter and stronger each day. She often expressed a desire to depart and be with Christ. Her sick room often seemed like the anteroom of heaven, and when at last the door opened noiselessly, and she was not, for God had taken her, the glory of heaven seemed to linger in the room her spirit had just left. In her home she was a devoted affectionate wife and mother, a helpmate indeed to her husband. When such a life ends in what seems to be in the midst of usefulness we are inclined to look only upon the dark side of the cloud which separates us from the departed one, but we may be assured that God makes no mistakes, and in his economy there is no waste. The fragrance of her life still lingers among us. As the light often tinges the clouds with beauty after the sun has disappeared from our view, so may the memory of her good works and words be a living benediction to us in years to come. The funeral was held at the First M.E. church yesterday afternoon, her pastor, Rev. Dr. Woodworth, paying a touching tribute to her memory, after which her remains were laid to rest in Floyd cemetery beside two of her children who had preceded her to the better land.

A sorrowing husband, two daughters and one son remain in the broken household, in deepest gloom and sorrow. An aged father, mother, three sisters and two brothers were present at the funeral. M. (Sioux City Journal, Sioux City, IA, June 3, 1894)
