Creed L Mortensen, 81, of Los Gatos, California, and formerly of Salem, Idaho, died Thursday, June 21, 2007, at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center-Santa Teresa in San Jose, California.

He was born April 18, 1926 at home to James Leland Mortensen and Effie Ann Evans Mortensen in Salem, Idaho. He grew up on the family farm. He attended North Salem Grammar School and then graduated from Sugar Salem High School.

He served in the Navy during World War II.

On November 28, 1947, he married Gwenna Marie Johnson in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. After they were married, he was called on a LDS mission to Denmark. They moved to Bakersfield, California, after his return.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Brigham Young University and a Master in Arts degree from Fresno State University.

He served as President of several counseling associations in California. He introduced many new counseling techniques for solving of human problems, which are still in use today.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he held many positions. Besides his mission to Denmark, he served a mission in the Bakersfield California Stake.

He loved sports, traveling and seeing new places, attending symphonies, dancing to big bands, and listening to great vocalists.

He is survived by his daughter, 4 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gwenna; 3 brothers, and 5 sisters.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 am Saturday, June 30, 2007, at the Sugar City Cemetery. Local arrangements are under the direction of Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St, Idaho Falls, Idaho.
