In the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on November 28, 1947, Gwenna married Creed L. Mortensen. Shortly there after, her husband was call on an LDS Church mission to Denmark. Returning to college to obtain a teaching certificate, she graduated from Brigham Young University in home economics in 1950. Her teaching career began as a first and second grade teacher in the hallway of an elementary school. From there, she and Creed moved to Bakersfield, California where both taught school. She worked as a home economics teacher and counselor at Bakersfield Junior College. In 1964, they moved to the Bay area and Gwenna worked at Foothill, DeAnza, and West Valley colleges. They moved to Los Gatos, California in 1967. Described as, “as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside.” A wonderful listener, she never had a bad feeling for anyone or anything and always treated others with kindness. Her living family include her husband, Creed, Los Gatos; a daughter Pamela (Dennis) Grant, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren; brother, Errol (Myrtie) Johnson, Wilford and Lynn (Judy) Johnson, Orem Utah. Preceding her death were parents, Eric Johnson and Ruby Compton Johnson, and a sister Merle Hunter. She was born and raised in the Wilford area of Idaho.
