Darold Adams

1916 -- 2003

Darold Adams, 87, passed away peacefully at home of cancer, surrounded by his family, May 10, 2003. He was born February 20, 1916 in Layton, Utah, the seventh of thirteen children born to George Henry and Mary Ann Green Adams. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters; Ruby Adams, Ila Child, Dorothea Fowler, Beatrice Winward and six brothers; Earl, LeRoy, Waynard, Harold, Allen, and a one-day old brother.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Marguerite Barlow, who he married May 17, 1937 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He is also survived by seven children: one son, Stanley (Shona) Adams of Walla Walla, Washington and six daughters; Margene (Kelly) Bambrough of South Weber; Mary Ellen (Joel) Izatt of Clearfield; DeAnn Hansen of Layton; Jenneal (Richard) Hansen of Boise, Idaho; Shellee (Mark) Vernon of Provo and Barbara (Michael) Lee of Walnut Creek, California; also 29 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren as well as his sister, Mary Steed and brother, Max (Donna) Adams and one sister-in-law, Lydia Adams.

Darold attended Davis High School and was employed by the U.S. Government at Hill Air Force Base for 29 years retiring in April, 1975. In his lifetime, he built several homes and maintained a farm, raising cattle, grains, and alfalfa. He was an avid horseman; he and his brothers rode horses in the Clearfield 4th of July Parade for 25 years. His love and enthusiasm for horses was his trademark. He enjoyed riding his horse and continued to ride until March 2003.

Darold was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many leadership callings including presidencies in the Elders Quorum and the High Priests Group. He especially enjoyed serving in the Sunday School Presidency and was always a devoted home teacher. He and his eternal companion served in the San Antonio, Texas Mission in 1985 and in the Ogden LDS Temple as ordinance workers for 2 1/2 years.

He was a man of uncommon love and compassion who blessed the lives of many. His subtle humor, endearing charm, and gentle manner will be sadly missed, but he left a wonderful legacy for all who knew and loved him.

The family wishes to express appreciation to the Hospice caregivers, who in his last hours provided unsurpassed support and comfort.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 16, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Lincoln Ward LDS Chapel, 590 W. 2000 No. (Antelope Dr.) Layton.
