Funeral services were conducted Sunday, January 1, at 2:00 p.m. for William Phelps Rice, who died Thursday, Dec. 29 at 3:00 p.m. at the Rosary Hospital. He was 85. Funeral services were conducted at the Lyon Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. J. M. Vaughn with burial in Brookside Cemetery. Mr. Rice was a member of the Miller's Chapel Methodist Church. He was a native of Taylor County and the son of Dorothy Robinson and William Rice. He is survived by the following children, Mrs. Violet Perkins, Rt. 6; Mrs. Mamie Phillips, Rt. 1; Mrs. Rachel Arnold, Osage Beach, Missouri; Clate Rice, El Cajon, California; Adron Rice, Ludlow, Ky.; and Edward Rice, with the U. S. Air Force, Amarillo, Texas; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Three children, Vester, Raymond, and Louise Rice precede him in death with two brothers and two sisters. Pallbearers were Jeff H. Campbell, Frank and Eugene Rice, Paul McCubbin, C. F. McLean, and Cloyd Blakeman.
