William Vester Rice, Rt. 3, Campbellsville, died at his home in the Salem community, Friday, May 28, at 7:45 a.m. Funeral services were conducted from the Lyon Funeral Home Chapel Sunday at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. J. L. McLean. Burial was in Brookside Cemetery. Mr. Rice, 52, a farmer, was a member of the Salem Baptist Church. He was a World War II veteran with the Army in New Guinea and engaged in a large part of the rough fighting in the South Pacific. He was born in Taylor County, son of Lura Dills and Phelps Rice, who survive him with his wife, Mrs. Minnie Campbell Rice and a son, James S. Rice. Also surviving are three brothers and three sisters, Clate Rice, El Cajon, Calif.; Adron Rice, Ludlow, Ky.; and Edwin Rice, Amarillo, Texas; Mrs. James (Violet) Perkins, Rt. 6; Mrs. Virgil (Mayme) Phillips, Rt. 1; and Mrs. Merle M. (Rachel) Arnold, Osage Beach, Mo. Pallbearers were W. H. Bugg, George Arvin, Earl Barnett, Charlie Pike, Orris W. Warf and Maze Patton.
