Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Trinity United Church of Christ, La Salle. Pastor Betty Delgado will officiate. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, La Salle.
Visitaton will be 5-8 p.m. Friday in Burgess Funeral Home, La Salle, and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Saturday in the church.
Mr. Smith was born April 20, 1931, to Charles V. and Alvina (Jordan) Smith in Peru. He married Judith "Judy" Benedict on Nov. 22, 1952, in Trinity United Church of Christ.
Bob attended a one-room school in Dimmick and graduated from La Salle-Peru Township High School in 1949. He farmed in Dimmick most of his life. He also was employed by Carus Chemical Corp., Manley Bros. and Western Sand and Gravel.
He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He spent many vacations fishing in Wisconsin with friends and family. Bob was a loyal fan of local and Chicago sports teams and enjoyed following Illini basketball, football and Western Illinois volleyball. He was raised listening to and watching the Cubs and loyally followed them throughout his life. Bob also enjoyed gardening and took meticulous care of his fruit trees and vegetables.
He was a member of Local Union 150 and was a trustee on the Dimmick fire department board. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, La Salle.
Survivors are his wife, of Peru; six children, Robert (Mary) Smith of Mount Pleasant, S.C., Jill Smith of Marietta, Ga., Gary Smith of Spring Valley, James Smith of Indianapolis, Ind., Craig (Barbie) Smith of Dimmick and Joy Smith of Yorkville; 10 grandchildren, Jacob, Jessie, Bobby, Julia, Nicole, Elizabeth, Kileigh, Kloey, Hope and Heather; eight great-grandchildren, Tanner, Brekan, Chase, Peyton, Claire, Reagan, McKenna and Charlee; two sisters, Arlene (James) Waytenik of Peru and Myrtle McNeilly of Indiana; one brother, Curt Smith of Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and two brothers.
