He was born Sept. 20, 1915 in St. Louis, son of Morgan and Lydia Louise (Understall) Evans. He married Gladys Irene Harris on Jan. 31, 1947. She survives.
Evans served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Pekin during the Great Depression. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1939, where he served with his brother Kenneth in Anchorage and Nome, AK. After working one year with the Army Corps of Engineers, he served 29 years with the U.S. Geological Survey as a surveyor and field cartographer.
He is survived by brothers, James W. "Tip" Evans, Morgan "Jiggs" Evans, Jr., and Robert M. Evans; two sons, Jon Paul (wife, Julie) Evans, and Kevin Ray (wife, Nancy) Evans; two grandsons, Chad Arthur Evans, and Randall Keith Evans.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul Anthony Evans, and Kenneth "Gabby" Evans; and sisters, Ruth (Evans) Kirkman and Ann (Evans) Mutka.
