He was a member and former elder at Second Presbyterian Church, a board member of Presbyterian Day School and Young Life, Air Force veteran and a graduate of the University of Memphis.
Mr. Turnage, the husband of Ann Miller Turnage, also leaves two sons, Scott Maclin Turnage and Andrew Baxter Turnage, both of Memphis; his sister, Betty Raffanti of Nesbit, MS and two brothers, Mark Turnage and Bill Turnage, both of Memphis.
