Eleanor was most probably born in Carroll Township, Perry County, where her parents lived at the time of her birth, and possibly in her grandparents' home. She was the first of five known children in her family. Her father was a farmer and the family moved from Perry to Cumberland County some time after 1880.

Mechanicsburg, June 12. -- Mrs. Ella C. Herr, widow of Amos A. Herr, died yesterday after several weeks illness, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Paul Sipe, 1725 Anna street, New Cumberland. She was a member of Trinity United Brethren Church, New Cumberland, and a former member of the United Brethren Church of Sheperdstown.
Surviving are these daughters, Mrs. Sipe, Mrs. Fannie M. Rockey, of Walnut Bottom, a son, A. Albert Herr, Harrisburg; a sister, Mrs. Laura Abergast, of East Berlin, a brother, Harvey Shatto, Carlisle; these step-sisters and brothers, Mrs. Annie Worman, Troy, Kanas, Mrs. Rena Gleim and Eber Shatto, both of Carlisle.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 in the Funeral home at 37 East Main street, Mechanicsburg, with the Rev. Dr. Walter L. Lutz, of New Cumberland, officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, near Churchtown. Friends may call tomorrow evening at the home of Mrs. Sipe in New Cumberland.
