Bernal R. Pearson, 96, Monticello, died at 4:10 p.m., Thursday, January 17, at IU Health White Memorial Hospital.

He was born February 4, 1916, in Hartford City, to the late Harry C. and Luria (Baker) Pearson. He married Elizabeth A. "Betty" Ward on June 1, 1938, in Marion. She preceded him in death, July 12, 2011.

Bernal was a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church; where he was once taught Sunday School, served as the Sunday School Superintendent and served on a committee when the educational addition was constructed. He was a 1934 graduate of Rolls High School, Rolls. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during WWII. He moved to Monticello in 1941, then acquired and operated the Standard Oil Bulk Plant until his retirement in 1971. He served two terms as the White County Treasurer. He also served on the County Council, Union Township Public Library Board, and on the Boy Scout Board. He was a fifty-year member of Kiwanis and was past president of the Monticello club. He was a Gideon, and a fifty-year member of the Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by a daughter; Cheryl (John) Spradlin of Westerville, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m., until the time of services at 3 p.m. Sunday, January 20, at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home; with Rev. Brian Beeks of the Monticello United Methodist Church officiating.

Burial will follow in Riverview I.O.O.F Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest beside his beloved Betty.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Monticello United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
