Phoebe Jane Wells, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Riley Wells and Betsey K. Wells was born in Great Bend, Pa., Mar. 31, 1843. She came to Kansas with her parents in 1857 settling near Seneca. Mrs. Sherman was married in Centralia and with her husband, Stephen Sherman homesteaded a farm south of Seneca. Later they settled at Old Lincoln, then in Seneca where the children attended high school. When Guy and Glen Sherman, twin sons, were ready the family moved to Lawrence where the sons graduated from the law department of Kansas university.
