Deceased Name: CHARLES STAUDENMEIER, 93; WAS SCHUYLKILL COUNTY JUDGE

Charles W. Staudenmeier, 93, of 1134 Spruce St., Ashland, a former Schuylkill County judge and former member of the Pennsylvania Legislature, died Tuesday in Ashland State General Hospital. He was the husband of Sara (Daley) Staudenmeier. They observed their 65th wedding anniversary last year.
A 1916 graduate of Dickinson School of Law, Carlisle, Cumberland County, Staudenmeier was admitted to the Schuylkill County Bar Association in 1917.
An Army veteran of World War I, he opened his law office in Ashland, upon discharge from the service, and became chief deputy district attorney for Schuylkill County.
In 1922 he was elected to the Pennsylvania State Legislature where he served five terms as representative, followed by a four-year term in the state Senate. In 1947, he was elected to the Schuylkill County Court of Common Pleas. He held this office for 20 years until retiring in 1967.
He was an appeal agent for the Selective Service for more than 25 years until 1971.
He was a former president and vice president of Citizens Bank, Ashland.
Born in Ashland, he was a son of the late Joseph and Margaret (Lutz) Staudenmeier.
He was a member of St. Mauritius Catholic Church, Ashland.
He was a former trustee of the Good Samaritan Hospital, Pottsville.
Surviving with his widow are two sons, Charles W. Jr. of Hershey, Dauphin County, and Dr. James J. of Conyngham, Luzerne County; two daughters, Margaret, wife of John Whelan of Havertown, Delaware County, and Sally, wife of Donald Margraf of Allentown; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today in the church. The Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, 1323 Centre St., Ashland, is in charge of arrangements.
